Apple Pie

To ensure the rich taste and aroma of the pie we recommend using to big Granny Smith apples and three middle-sized Florina apples.

For the crust:
  • 250 g butter
  • 2-3 tablespoons water
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 500 g flour
For the filling:
  • 4-5 grated apples
  • 1 – 1 ½ cup sugar
  • ground cinnamon
  • 150 – 200 g raisins
  • ½ cup rum
Directions:
  • 1. Leave the butter to soften at room temperature and then mix it in a bowl with the rest of the ingredients.
  • 2. Put the dough in refrigerator to cool for 30 min.
  • 3. Line a pie plate with 2/3 of the dough.
  • 4. Preheat oven to 200º C, cover it with baking paper and bake for 20 min.
  • 5. Then turn down the oven to 180º C, remove the paper and bake for another 15 min.
  • 6. Mix the raisins with the rum and heat them up to soften.
  • 7. In a bowl mix sugar, raisins, cinnamon, and apples.
  • 8. With the rest of the dough form a lid for the pie.
  • 9. Pour the apple mixture onto the baked crust, cover with the lid.
  • 10. Make star shaped cuttings in the middle of the pie.
  • 11. Beat one egg yolk and brush pastry over pastry.
  • 12. Bake 45 – 60 min.
  • 13. Serve the pie when cooled with a ball of ice cream.
